Kirk Violins is a small family run business in Montana devoted primarily to the arts of making
and repairing stringed instruments. Owner and Luthier John Kirk started his first shop in 1984
near the Beartooth Mountains of Southern Montana after completing his study with David Reeve
(Reeve Violins) in Longmont Colorado.
John has spent much time developing and enhancing techniques that contribute to the tonal
superiority of an instrument. To quote John, "There is no great mystery in how to produce
a fine sounding violin, you start with a few nice pieces of wood and scrape away everything
that is not a fine sounding violin."
In fact, it has taken years of persistence and plain hard work to produce the level of instrument that we ourselves would love to own. To quote John again, “I wanted to make something that sounded like an old Italian instrument that would also fit within a musician’s budget.”
Indeed, Kirk’s instruments produce a rich, beautiful sound that has warmed the hearts of hundreds of players and thousands of listeners.
Here at Kirk Violins we have your instrument waiting.
We thank you and hope that you enjoy your visit to Kirkviolins.com.
